The Seven Continents 13.05.16

This week in Topic we have been learning about the world around us. We found out that the world has seven continents and five oceans.

The Seven Continents are:
South America
North America
Asia
Europe
Africa
Antarctica
Australia

The Five Oceans are:
Indian ocean
Arctic Ocean

Pacific Ocean
Southern Ocean
Atlantic Ocean

We explored continent bags which were full of pictures, photos, books, artefacts and recorded what we found out in our own way.

In Creative writing we wrote a story about a journey to a new world. We thought about what lands we might find in Space and who we might meet there. We created a story plan and then used this to write our stories. Miss Howells was really pleased to see us using our imaginations.

In Maths this week we have been subtracting a one digit number from a two digit number. We had to remember to start with the biggest number and explored using different strategies to support us in our working. Today we did subtraction word problems. We thought about the important information in the problem and used this to write our number sentence.

We have thought of a word problem together, can you solve it?
There were 17 crabs on the beach. 9 crawl away. How many are left?

This week we practised our May dance with Oak class. We can't wait to perform it to our grown ups in 2 weeks time!

This weeks Learning Owl is John. He has been chosen for really challenging himself in his learning this week. Well done John, we hope you enjoy your weekend with Plop!

Our Home Learning Challenge this week is to record what we think Beckonscot Model Village is going to look like.
