This week we had four performances of our play 'Rise and Shine.' We all remembered our lines and made sure to use loud speaking and singing voices. Lots of our friends and family came to watch, it was really good fun!
A very BIG thank you to our grown ups for our fantastic costumes!
In English we wrote instructions to make an Easter nest. We made sure to put them into order and used bossy words to tell the reader what to do:
1) First pour the melted chocolate on to the rice krispies.
2)Stir the mixture until all of the rice krispies are covered in chocolate.
3) Put two teaspoons of the mixture into a cup cake case.
4) Take a mini egg and put it on the top of your nest.
In PSHE we thought about how to make someone feel welcome. We watched a video about a little boy called Fred who was worried about starting at a new school. We thought about ways of making him feel welcome and wrote him a letter inviting him to come and visit Beech class. We also thought about what it means to feel proud and when we have felt proud of ourselves.
In Maths we continued our work on time. We practised making o'clock and half past times and then recorded these on blank clock faces. It was a bit tricky to remember which hand was the minute hand and which was the hour hand but we persevered and now we can do it!
Tomorrow is Good Friday so Plop has started his adventure a day early. This weeks Learning Owl is Alfie. He has been chosen for his fantastic attitude towards his learning. Well done Alfie, we hope you enjoy your weekend with Plop.
Happy Easter everybody! Enjoy the long weekend and Easter celebrations and we look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.

What's the time Mr Wolf? 18.03.16
This week in Maths we have been learning about time. We made a giant clock on the playground and took turns to be the minute and hour hand. We found out that: "When it is o'clock the minute hand is pointing at the twelve and when it is half past it is pointing at the six."
In English we continued our poetry work. We read the poem 'Hickory Dickory Dock' and thought about what words rhymed with the different times the clock struck.
One: fun, bun, done
Two: Shoe, Few, Phew, chew, moo, queue
Three: me, tea, knee, key, bee
Four: door, core, more
Five: Dive, drive, hive
We then used the words we had generated to write our own verse for the poem:
Hickory Dickory Dock,
The Mouse ran up the clock,
The clock struck six,
The mouse did some tricks,
Hickory Dickory Dock.
In Science this week we carried out our chocolate investigation.
We wanted to know what would happen when you put chocolate into cold, hot and fizzy water and this is what we found out:
"The chocolate in the hot water went like hot chocolate. It was all gooey."
"The chocolate in the fizzy water went fizzy. It had bubbles all over it!"
"Nothing happened to the chocolate in the cold water."
Miss Howells then showed us how to create a freezer using salt and ice and we put the melted chocolate in the freezer to see what would happen.
This week was our last week of rehearsals for our Year 1 play 'Rise and Shine.'
We are now ready to perform it in front of an audience and can't wait to do a dress rehearsal in our costumes on Monday!
Today we all came to school in our sporty clothes. We ran twice around the school to raise money for Sports Relief. It was SO FUN!
Our Learning Owl this week is Caeden. He has been chosen for his fantastic Maths work. Well done Caeden, we hope you enjoy your weekend with Plop!

Rosie's Walk 11.03.16
This week in Maths we read the story 'Rosie's Walk.' It had lots of positional and directional language in it. We gave directions to our partners to help them complete Rosie's journey. We went across the yard, around the pond, over the haystack, past the mill, through the fence and under the beehives.
In English we ate a magic bean. It made us shrink to the size of an ant. We thought about what dangers we might face and how we could get back to our normal size and used our ideas to write a story. Miss Howells was really impressed with our of use of imagination!
In Computing we learnt how to edit our photographs. We changed the colour and size of our photos and added a frame.
In Science we used our observation skills to find out how caramel is made. We found out that when you heat sugar it melts and turns brown.
We have been very busy rehearsing our play. The songs sound fantastic and we have been busy practising our words. We can't wait for our grown ups to come and see us!
This week's Learning Owl is Isabella. She has been chosen for using her independence skills. Well done Isabella, we hope you enjoy your weekend with Plop!
Next week in Maths we will be learning about Time. If you have a watch please wear it to school next week.

Money, Money, Money! 04.03.16
In Maths this week we have been learning about Money.
We read the story 'The Great Pet Sale' by Mick Inkpen and thought about what pets we would buy.
"A rat, an anteater and a koala cost 10p."
"Two boxes of little brown creatures cost 20p and four puffins also cost 20p."
"A penguin, a turtle and a rat cost 9p."
This week is Book week! We have been stopping and reading at different times of the day and sharing our favourite books and poems with our friends. Today some of us dressed up as book characters.
In English we have been learning about Poetry. We read three different poems about seeds. We worked on using expression and following the rhythm of the poems before performing as a class.
On World Book day we got together with our Year 4 buddies. We read the book 'Cat in the Hat' by Dr Seuss. We then created our own cat in the hat and wrote a verse about them:
"My cat is wearing a hat,
My cat is very fat.
He sometimes like to hold a cricket bat
and he has a sleep on the mat."
On Wednesday we had a visitor called 'Professor Pango Mango.' He was very funny!
Professor Pango Mango got different hats out of his bag and different children tried them on. We then used these to come up with our own poems.
In Computing we have been learning how to take photographs using a digital camera.
We took photos of things we liked on the playground and explored using the zoom in, zoom out and delete button. We had to remember to keep the camera still so our photo was in focus.
This weeks Learning Owl is Liam. He has been chosen for really persevering with his Maths work. Well done Liam, have a great weekend with Plop!
