Rocket seeds 29.04.16

This week we had a very exciting delivery. We got two packets of Rocket seeds one from Earth and another that had been to Space with Tim Peak. We don't know which seeds are which so we are growing them to find out. We think that the space seeds won't grow as much as the other seeds because they had no gravity when they were in space.
We will keep you updated as to what happens as the seeds grow!

In English this week we have been learning about Traditional Tales. These are stories that have been told for hundreds of years for example; The Three Little Pigs, The Three Billy Goats Gruff,  Goldilocks and the Three Bears and Little Red Riding Hood. We read two different versions of the Jack and the Beanstalk and an alternative version called Jim and the Beanstalk. We compared the characters and events and recorded these in a table.

In Maths we have been ordering numbers. We practised putting numbers into order from smallest to biggest and thought about where these would go on a number line.

In Gymnastics we have been learning how to jump. Last term we learnt how to do a star jump and today we learnt how to do a tuck, a pike and a straddle jump. We need to remember to push our legs out in front of us and land with our knees bend.

In Dance we have started to learn our May day dance. We  walked through the first few steps and practised these with the music.

This weeks Learning Owl is Alice. She has been chosen for using her independence skills and persevering with a problem.Well done Alice, we hope you have a lovely weekend with Plop!

This weeks Home Learning Challenge is to design a poster for the Redbourn in Bloom Horticultural Society poster competition. The theme is gardens so it needs to be colourful and eye catching but should not feature any text. It needs to be A4 and please write your name and class on the back.

Wonders Of The World 22.04.16

It's great to be back at school  and see all of our friends again. We all had a lovely Easter holidays and did lots of exciting things!

This week we started our new topic 'Wonders of the world.' Mrs Griffiths and Miss Howells have put a big world map on our topic board. We can already recognise some of the places we have been on holiday but can't wait to find out more about the countries, continents and oceans. All week we have been busy showing off our learning. We wrote a recount about our holidays and retold the story of 'The Runaway Chapati.' We can't believe how much our writing has improved since the start of the year.

We also drew a self portrait. "A self portrait is when you draw a picture of yourself.' We looked carefully at ourselves in the mirror and tried to add detail to our pictures.'

Our Learning Owl this week is Isabelle. She has been chosen for approaching all of her learning with a fantastic 'I can do it' attitude. Well done Isabelle, we hope you enjoy your weekend with Plop. Well done to all of the children who took part in the Easter challenge, the miniature gardens looked fantastic! We enjoyed looking at the creations by all of the children from nursery to year two and are delighted that Erin received highly commended in the judging.

This week's home learning is to research the seven continents of the world and record your findings in your own way.

Have a lovely weekend and good luck to any friends and family running the marathon on Sunday!

A special birthday and RE day 01.04.16

On Wednesday it was Mrs Byrne's Birthday. We all decorated a piece of bunting which the teachers hung in her office and we learnt a special song and made her a card. She was very surprised!

Yesterday was RE day, we compared Easter and Holi celebrations and took part in lots of exciting activities. We did a really fun Indian dancing workshop and made a simnel cake with Mrs Burgess. We put eleven marzipan balls on the top for the disciples. In Learning through plan we decorated pictures of Indian Elephants, drew Holi pictures on the computer and did some writing about the two celebrations.

In Computing we learnt how to copy and paste pictures. We remembered to use the right side of the mouse to copy the picture and the left side to open documents.

In PSHE we thought about what to do if we feel worried. We decided that you could talk to an adult or parent, take deep breathes, read a book or have a cuddle.

Well done Beech Class on another fantastic term! Plop is off on holiday but is looking forward to his next adventure after the holidays.

There is no home learning this week as we would to take part in the Easter Challenge and create your own miniature garden. We look forward to seeing your creations on the first day back!

We hope everybody has a lovely Easter Holidays and we look forward to seeing you again on Tuesday 19th April.
