3D shapes 12.02.16

This week in Maths we have been learning to name and describe 3D shapes.
The D in '3D' means dimensional. This means that it has height, width and length so can stand up on its own.

Did you know?...Vertices is another word for corners.
A cube has 8 vertices, a cylinder has 0 vertices and a pyramid has 4 vertices.

In English this week we have thinking about the events in stories. We recalled the events from a familiar Katie Morag story and used a picture to predict what might be happening in a story we haven't read. Miss Howells was really pleased to see that we all remembered to use capital letters and full stops.

In Creative Writing we thought about what it would be like to visit Struay for the day. We used our imaginations to think about what we might see, who we might meet and what might happen.

In Gymnastics we created a sequence of movements using a roll and a balance. We thought about how to stand and finish our sequence and worked on using our core to support and strengthen our movements.

In Science we recorded our findings from our Sound Investigation. We found out that the bell could be heard from the furthest distance as the sound travelled for the longest. We also found out that Annie could hear all three sounds from the furthest away.

In Celebration Assembly today we got the library award. This means that we have borrowed and returned the most books from the library!

Miss Howells has decided that all of the children in Beech Class deserve to the be the Learning Owl this week for their fantastic learning this half term. Plop is going to have a hot bath and rest over the holidays but is looking forward to his next adventure.

This weeks Home Learning challenge is to go for a walk around Redbourn and record what you like/ dislike.

We hope that everybody in Beech Class has a lovely half term and we look forward to seeing each other again on Monday 22nd February.
