Green Day and Busters Visit 17.06.16

We have had a very exciting week in Beech Class this week!

On Wednesday it was Green Day so we all came to school wearing something green and we didn't use electricity all day. We did lots of different activities across the day and we all had a packed lunch in the hall. This year green day coincided with world wind day so we all made a kite and flew them on the field. It was really fun but we had to make sure we weren't standing to close to each other so our kites didn't get tangled! In learning through play we made wind turbines and windmills out of junk modelling and made green day posters and leaflets.

Today we had a surprise visitor inelebration assembly...Buster! He came to thank everybody for taking part in his walk to school event and award Beech Class with the golden boot. We were all really excited to meet Buster and felt very proud of ourselves for being the class to walk to school the most.

In Maths this week we have been learning about measure. We helped the athletes who are going to the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janiero by measuring the length, capacity and weight of different pieces of sporting equipment. We learnt that length is measured in centimetres and metres, capacity is measured in millilitres and litres and weight is measure in grams and kilograms.

In English we have been learning about Fantasy books. Fantasy books are books that are not based on reality - they can have fantasy characters, settings and objects.

In Dance this week we have been thinking about summer. We thought about what we like to do in the summer when the weather sis hot and started to put movements together to make a splash dance.

In Creative Writing we looked at a book called 'The Journey.' It is different to normal fiction books as it didn't have any writing. We looked at the illustrations and talked about what might be happening in the story. We then thought about what we would draw if we had a magic crayon and where it would take us. Miss Howells was really pleased to see lots of us using our imaginations.

This weeks Learning Owl is Tommy. He has been chosen for using his independence skills in English this week. Well done Tommy, we hope you enjoy your weekend with Plop!

Our home learning challenge this week is to design our own fantasy setting
