Our Senses - 15th January 2016

This week a science workshop came to school. It was all about our senses. We did lots of different activities using our five senses.
Our five senses are:
Taste

Touch
Sight
Hearing
Smell

We found out that :
"If you see something and it is moving really quickly your brain can't tell you what it is."
"If you do exercise your heart beat gets faster."
"If you touch something your skin tells you what it feels like."

"Sounds travels through your ears then a message is sent to your brain and your brain tells you what the sound is."

In English we have been learning about non-chronological reports. We explored a range of different reports and looked for key features; Titles, subheadings, photographs, diagram etc. We also thought about different sub-headings we could use and what information we put under these.

In Maths this week we have been using a variety of different maths skills. We thought about careful counting skills and how we could use these when counting a large group of object, we practised ordering numbers from smallest to biggest and we used mathematical symbols to compare two numbers.

We found out that when comparing numbers using greater than > and less than < symbols the widest part of the arrow always faces the biggest number:

50 > 11

9 < 14

55 > 33

In PSHE we created steps to success for achieving our challenge leaves.

We were very excited about handwriting this week as we learnt our first join! We can't wait to use it in our writing.

This weeks Learning Owl is Erin. She has been chosen for her fantastic attitude towards her learning. Well done Erin we hope you enjoy your weekend with Plop!

The home learning challenge this week is to create a mind map of everything you have found out about your senses.
