Towers 25.06.16

This week in Science we received a letter from Legoland. They wanted our help to build a new sky scraper for their model village. It was going to be the tallest sculpture they had ever built and had to pass the 'earthquake test.' We thought about what shape we were going to use and how we would make it strong and sturdy and then used cocktail sticks and midget gems to construct our towers. We had to really persevere as the taller our towers got the more wobbly they became!

In English this week we read a book called 'Molly goes to Rio' about a little girl who travels to Rio de Janiero in a magic suitcase. We thought about how we would get to Rio and what would be special about our fantasy object. We had lots of good ideas like a magic broomstick, a disappearing pot hole and a glowing gem stone. We also thought about what fantasy setting this would take us to and used WOW! words to describe it. Miss Howells was really impressed with our work and our fantastic pictures!

In Maths we used our addition and subtraction skills to add and subtract two digit numbers and solve problems. We thought about what resources and manipulatives we could use to support us in our working and explored using different strategies.

In Topic we thought about what we are like at present. We drew an outline of ourselves and wrote sentences to describe what we are like; Our favourite colour, number of brothers and sisters, age etc. We then read each others descriptions and saw if we could guess who's work it was.

In Computing we recorded our audio clips of our 'Jack and the Beanstalk' story. We practised our narration and sound effects and then used the MicPro app on the IPads to record each part of the story.

Exciting News!! - This week our live caterpillars built their chrysalis and our now transforming to butterflies. We can't wait to see what they look like!

This weeks Learning Owl is William. He has been chosen for persevering with a problem and working independently. Well done William, we hope you enjoy your weekend with Plop!

This weeks home learning challenge is to create your own addition or subtraction game.
